Aibo Robot Dogs From Sony Are Back!
Sony has decided to bring back its iconic robot pet brand calling the new model ‘Aibo’ (model number ERS-1000). The new model has ultra-compact actuators allowing its body to move 22 axes, whilst its eyes use two OLED panels to show various expressions. Battery is expected to last around 2 hours, recharging for 3 hours. Aibo’s behaviour is predicted to be adaptable, as it’s using deep learning technology to analyze the sounds and images coming through the sensors. The pet can also access cloud data, where the data collected by other Aibo units and owners is stored.
Aibo also comes with an app called ‘My Aibo’ that is used to access settings, other dogs’ photos and also download additional “tricks” and features. This service requires a subscription fee of 2,980 ($26) yen a month for a minimum of 3 years. For another 2,980 yen you can also get an accessory called ‘Aibone’. Yes, Sony went there.
Aibo is already available for pre-order in Japan and will go on sale on the 11th of January 2018. So far, it is only planned to be released in Japan. Aibo will cost you 198,000 yen ($1,700) + the monthly app subscription.
