The Kunkun Body Odour Detector, A Japanese Device to Smell Your Armpits For You
Konica Minolta’s Kunkun Body system is a portable odour detector from Japan. You don’t have to force yourself to smell things to check their cleanliness or rottenness. Kunkun will do it for you: select the spot you want sniffed, hold the tool about 1cm away from the spot, hit the button, and the sensor will send data on your phone. The scale goes up to 100 (being the worst), and it detects three types of smell: sweat, middle age (‘worn out oil’), old age (the fragrance you emit after hitting 50 apparently).
Kunkun could be handy for your date preparations, scanning anything from the top of your head to your toenails. This interesting device is currently only available in Japan, and is retailing at 30,000 yen (around £200 or $270). The gadget raised nearly $500,000 in a Japanese crowdfunding campaign, which makes sense, considering Japan’s strict dress codes of wearing thick work suits in the middle of summer. Will the popularity of this device reach out of its native country? Only time will tell.
