Turn your Desk into a Touchscreen using this Cool New Projector Light!
Let’s be honest here, as professional as we all are most of our workstations might not reflect that. Walking through an office you can see different types of clutter from different people. From family photos, to mini bowling alleys, loads of papers and oh… the occasional alcoholic beverage. Imagine if you could remove and organize most of that space, also what if you could bring everything back in an instant?
Well the answer might just be here, researchers at Carnegie Mellon have found a way to make real life and virtual objects interact. By using two pieces of tech, these innovators have taken us a step closer to a tidier work space.
‘Desktopography’ is what the genius’ at Carnegie Mellon are calling it. These intellectual minds have found a solution to this problem. Using an overhead projector and a depth sensor, they have found a way to virtually interact with your desk to efficiently conduct your working day. The projector and sensor were built together to fit in a regular desk lap (no more items to add to your desk I promise).
Simply put, the sensor will pick up any movement your hand makes on the surface. The job of the projector is to show you useful tools, apps and pages relevant to your field and this will all be control on the depth sensor. You can also use the surface like a normal desktop, this includes using the option to close tabs, enlarge apps and send emails.
This technology is still in its testing phase and could take some time to hit the market, but a successful prototype has been developed. So we recommend you keep your eyes open Carnegie Mellon might make the best desk accessory you’ll get!
