You Can Now Reprint Your Keys From Photographs!
If you ever needed to open a locked door, now there’s an easier way to do so. By using a parametric file for SCAD you can recreate a Kwikset key with a few keystrokes. Kwikset is one of the most vulnerable, as it only has five pins and five positions – 1 not being cut at all and 5 cut very deeply. Therefore, you can look at the image of such key and estimate the shallowness or deepness of key cut, and then plug those measurements into a CAD file and print a key within minutes.
The SCAD file also changes based on values you enter, following the geometry of the keying system precisely. So, yes! You can print 3D print working copies of real keys. We advise you not to post pictures of your keys on social media, however keeping a digital copy to yourself might become handy one day.
